One of the purposes of the Department of Archives and History is to provide care and maintain custody of official archives and materials bearing upon the history of the state and of the territory (Ala. Code, 41-6-2 [1975]). The Registration Section of the department is responsible for the creation and maintainance of records documenting the transfer of legal and physical custody of collections to the department. This series consists of accession logs which document the act and procedures involved in the transfer of legal title and the taking of collections into the physical custody of the department. Information in this series includes accession number, provenance, description, donor/agency address and telephone number, method of acquisition, quantity/volume, collection dates and remarks. One volume dated 1918-1921, within this series, records the accession of purchased records. Information in this volume includes date, name of seller, short description of the collection, voucher number, amount paid, and the number of items purchased.
